I-20/DS-2019

F-1 and J-1 Students/Scholars should note the program end date on the I-20/DS-2019. The program end date is the expected completion date of the program of study. This date is estimated at the start of the program and may be updated to an earlier or later date later in the program based on the student’s student/scholar’s actual progress. If the student is able to /scholar can complete the program of study by the program end date, then the student doesn’t they do not need to take any action. ISSS will update the I-20/DS-2019 program end date , following graduation.

However, if the student/scholar is not able to complete the program of study by the program end date, then the student they should request an extension of the I-20 or DS-2019. An I-20 or DS-2019 must be extended prior to before the program end date. If the I-20 or DS-2019 is allowed to expire, the student/scholar should contact an ISSS advisor as soon as possible. An expired I-20/DS-2019 may result in a student losing F-1 or J-1 status.
