Visa Type Table Standardization

Visa Type Table Standardization

This page provides a consistent standard to connect all visa types and statuses from across University of Tennessee data systems and reports.

Excel Version of Tables:

An Excel version of the table is attached for easy reference. Last updated 01/27/2025.

An Excel version of the proposed crosswalk from Equifax to Banner.

Regulatory Reference:

Code of Federal Regulations on non-immigrant visa status https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-22/chapter-I/subchapter-E/part-41.

Memorandum on In-State Tuition for Certain Non-Immigrant Visa Students dated December 5, 2013 from Matthew Scoggins, Assistant General Counsel, University of Tennessee System

Errors to Resolve:

  • In the Memorandum on In-State Tuition for Certain Non-Immigrant Visa Students, the visa type N (defined as Children of certain special immigrants) is referenced. It is unclear if this references N9 as defined by INA 101(a)(15)(N)(ii) (Child of N8 or of Individual Classified by DHS as SK1, SK2, SK4, SN1, SN2 or SN4). N8 is not referenced in the document.

  • In the Memorandum on In-State Tuition for Certain Non-Immigrant Visa Students, the visa type Q-2 & Q-3 (defined as Immediate family members of Q-1 visa holders) is referenced. These statuses do not exist as Q-1 does not have a provision for dependents.

  • Sunapsis is using a singular value for Banner value NA representing all NATO statuses. Value is NATO-1 Principal NATO Representative.

  • Equifax refers to E-1 Dependent and E-2 Spouse both should reflect separate primary work authorizations to dependents of E-1 and E-2 respectively (i.e. E-2 Dependent).

  • Equifax refers to J-2 and J-2 Dependent. This is redundant as their is only J-2 status, which is a dependent status. Values should be merged to reflect J-2.

  • Equifax refers to Asylee and Asylee Applicant. More information on these definitions is needed to determine what is being communicated. All Asylees are applicants for Permanent Resident. Is this what the definition is referencing?
